What matters when shipping mugs

Mugs are wrapped in paper or bubble wrap, which increases parcel size, and the price usually follows volume; ask for a single box per mug to cut breakage.

Anti-breakage packing

Ask for each mug to be bubble-wrapped with the handle protected, as it is the weakest point, then placed in a divided box inside an outer carton with padding and a fragile mark. Ask for a photo before closing for any claim.

Ceramic, stainless or insulated

A ceramic mug keeps the flavour of coffee and cools faster, an insulated steel mug holds heat for hours but can change the taste of some drinks, and a lidded mug suits the car. Choose by use, and read whether it is safe in a microwave and dishwasher.

Handle and rim

The weakest point of a mug is its handle, especially thin ceramic. Look at the thickness of the handle and how it is attached, and check that the rim is smooth and the inner glaze does not flake with repeated washing.

Gifts and personalised mugs

Mugs printed with names or photos make good gifts, but print time adds to shipping time. Ask how long preparation takes, do not order for a near occasion, and check that the printed language appears correctly before production.
