What matters when shipping curtain rods

Long rods set the parcel length and can raise the cost, so extendable rods ship shorter; rings, clips and tiebacks are very light, so combine them with curtains in one parcel.

Length and fitting

Measure the window width in centimetres and add 15 to 20 cm each side, then choose an extendable rod covering that length. Check the rod diameter suits your curtain rings and brackets and screws are included.

Length, diameter and load

A curtain rod is chosen by its extendable length (for example 120 to 210 cm) and by the tube diameter, which sets its ability to hold heavy curtains. Measure the window width and add 20 to 30 cm on each side, and for heavy curtains choose a larger diameter with a centre support.

Fixing and material

Check the wall type (plasterboard or concrete) because the screws differ, and that mounting brackets and rings are included. A coated metal rod is sturdier than plastic, and for a gold or matte black finish inspect the coating photos closely.

Long length, slim volume

The rod is long but thin, so it ships in a long narrow carton that may exceed the carrier’s parcel length limit. Ask about the maximum accepted length before buying, and look for rods that separate into two parts, which are easier to ship.
