Can curtains be made to measure in Turkey?

Yes, many Turkish stores make to measure, but these usually cannot be returned, so check sizes twice before ordering.

Should I order the full floor-to-rod drop?

Leave about two centimetres above the floor so the hem stays clean, and check the heading type: rings, tape or pockets.

Do I need a rod with the curtain?

Rods are long and uneconomic to ship, so buy a rod locally if you can.

What matters when shipping curtains

Curtains crease when folded in transit, but they recover once hung or steamed after arrival, so do not worry about the first creases.

Measuring and made-to-measure

Measure the window or rail width and the drop from the hanging point to the floor, and add the fullness the store asks for. Made-to-measure curtains usually cannot be returned, so check sizes twice before ordering and ask how long making takes.

Measure before you buy

Measure the window width and the drop from rod to floor, and multiply the width by one and a half to two for graceful folds. Ready-made curtains come in fixed widths, so count the panels needed for the whole window.

Fabric and light

Voile lets light through while blocking the view, blackout stops light entirely, and velvet insulates against sound and cold. Choose a fabric to suit the room and check the photos in natural light, not studio light.

Weight and packing

Velvet and blackout curtains are heavy and weigh more than their volume suggests, so they are charged on actual weight. Voile folds easily and is much lighter, so group all types in one parcel.
