What matters when shipping wallpaper

Wallpaper rolls are mid-weight with a fairly standard length, so they ship easily in one box; large quantities add weight, so land is cheaper when redoing several rooms.

Roll count and batch number

Measure the room perimeter and wall height in centimetres, divide by the roll coverage stated, then add a spare roll for pattern matching. Ask for all rolls from the same production batch so the colour does not vary.

Types of wallpaper

Vinyl wallpaper tolerates damp wiping and suits kitchens and corridors, light paper suits bedrooms, and woven wallpaper gives a rich texture but needs care. Read whether the wall is pasted or the paper itself has an adhesive back, since that decides the fitting method and tools.

Preparing the wall before fitting

A smooth, clean, dry wall is the basis of a good fitting, so remove flaking paint, fill cracks and wait for the filler to dry. Do not hang wallpaper on a damp or mouldy wall because it will come off. If the pattern is large, allow extra waste when matching.

Choosing pattern and size

Small patterns hide wall flaws and cut waste, while large patterns give a strong look but need matching and more waste. For small rooms choose light colours, and do not judge colour from a photo alone but ask for a sample if possible.
