The pots’ road to Syria

Pots travel overland to Damascus, Aleppo, Homs and Hama and arrive after about two weeks. Check the rims and the base on receipt, since hairline cracks show up in terracotta and ceramic.

The reference carton cost

Empty pots take up more room than their weight suggests. The reference for a 60×40×40 cm carton up to 15 kg is 15 to 20 dollars by region, customs excluded.

Avoiding breakage

Small pots nest inside large ones with paper between them, gaps are filled with crumpled cardboard, and the carton gets a fragile label. Nurseries get a separate quote.

Material and drainage before ordering

Flower pots are made of terracotta, plastic or glazed ceramic, and each material differs in weight and fragility. Check that the base has a drainage hole and a saucer underneath, and compare the top diameter and depth in centimetres with the size of your plant. Terracotta lets moisture out and breaks easily, while plastic is lighter but wears faster in strong sun.

Transit, delivery and price by country

Syria: overland in about two weeks, with the parcel reaching Damascus, Aleppo, Homs and Hama and the pots stuffed with paper against breakage. Jordan: land or sea, delivered in Amman, Irbid, Zarqa and Aqaba, with sea cheaper for large heavy pots. The Gulf: by air from Istanbul in 3 to 5 days for small and plastic pots, while big terracotta suits the land route. Plant nurseries ordering quantities get a special quote.
